Terence Mncedisi Nombembe is the current Chief Executive Officer of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), a position he occupied since January 2014.In this role he also represents Africa and the Middle East as a Board member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). He also serves as a Board member of the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA).  

His other current and most recent national responsibilities include being:

-    The Panelist of High Level Panel (HLP) that was established by the Speakers Forum to table a report on the impact of legislation in South Africa;

-    The Chairman of the Gauteng Ethics and Anti-Corruption Advisory Council;

-    The Board member of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), representing Government.

Terence Nombembe served as the Auditor-General (AG) of the Republic of South Africa for a period of seven years (1st December 2006 to 30th November 2013). Prior to the AG role he was the Deputy Auditor-General from 1st June 2000 to 30th November 2006. Altogether he this served in the Auditor-General's office in a leadership role for a total period of thirteen and a half years, (1st June 2000 to 30th November 2013). In this role he also served in the Board of AFROSAI (The African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions) as the Vice President and subsequently its President and Chairman. Thereafter he served on the Board of INTOSAI (The International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions) as its President and Chairman.

Terence Nombembe studied at the University of Transkei where he completed the Bachelor of Commerce degree, and at the University of South Africa where he completed the Honours in Bachelor of Accounting Science (B.Compt-Honours). He served his articles with Alex Aiken & Carter (now KPMG) in Umtata, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990. He was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Accounting Science by the Walter Sisulu University on the 14th May 2014.


Some of his other previous employers are Gobodo Incorporated, BP Southern Africa (PTY) Limited, Unilever South Africa (Pty) Limited where his experience include external auditing, internal auditing and financial management in the public sector, energy, manufacturing and retail sectors.
